Abstract

This article describes a method for the assessment of professional studentoutcomes (performance-type outcomes or soft skills). The method is basedupon group activities, research on modern electrical engineering topics byindividual students, classroom presentations on chosen research topics, finalpresentations, and technical report writing. Assessment activities includeapplication of a checklist that measures professional student outcomes ofteamwork, life-long learning, and communication skills including oral andwritten communication and presentation skills. The results are discussed withthe students and faculty for feedback purposes to establish a strongerrelationship between quality assurance and continuous improvement ofprofessional student outcomes crucial for engineers to be successful in theirprofession.
